Regarding Hurricane Irma

Our thoughts and prayers have been with everyone affected by Hurricane Irma. Our hotels fared well through the storm. Things are still getting back to normal as we operate with limited staff and resources.

If you still need a place to stay after the storm, the following of our properties are OPEN, have power and are accepting guests: The Barrymore Hotel Tampa Riverwalk in Tampa FL, Holiday Inn St. Petersburg North / Clearwater in Clearwater FL and Holiday Inn Gainesville – University Centerin Gainesville FL. The Holiday Isle Oceanfront Resort is still currently without power and is currently closed, but luckily withstood very minimal damage.

The WaterWorks Bar & Grill in Tampa is open with full menu as well as Aviators Tavern at the Clearwater Holiday Inn.

Again we hope you an your loved ones are safe and we will get through this together.

The Barrymore Hotel – Making Homes Happier

14040107_1250763164947294_2510027956041904208_n (1)Furnishing a home is expensive for everyone, but what if you didn’t have the money to buy the basics like a bed frame, end tables, or even afford to hang a picture on the wall? Living in a properly furnished home is something many of us take for granted, whether we want to realize it or not. Not everyone can afford this luxury.

Home Makers of Hope is a 100% volunteer-based organization in Tampa, FL that provides home furnishings and household essentials to families and individuals struggling with poverty. Basic needs like food, water and rent always come first – furniture, other seemingly fundamental home items like bed linens and home decor items – come last.

14100449_1250763204947290_5175987828553879408_nThis week, Barrymore Hotel General Manager Larry Collier, Chef Mary Willis and Engineering Director Kenneth Leslie and his team, pulled the strings to make a donation of 50 televisions happen for Home Makers of Hope. “Our families will be so happy,” captioned one the photos posted on the nonprofit’s Facebook page.

You can bring hope to someone’s home by donating your time to help with pickup and delivery, or to set up homes. Find out how.

About Home Makers of Hope
Home Makers of Hope is a 100% volunteer faith based ministry that has been creating homes for families since 2008. Gently used furniture and household items are donated from our parishes and communities and are provided at no cost to families in crisis.

Families are referred to us by case workers from various social service agencies. Our volunteers then meet with these families to identify their specific needs and wish lists. Beds, furnishings and household items are then delivered and set up by our volunteers … and homes are made as we make the beds, hang pictures, and decorate their homes.

TAMPA FL: The Barrymore Hotel Tampa Riverwalk announced today that they will be home to one of downtown Tampa’s newest Zipcar locations, with two Zipcars on-site. Now, when you stay at The Barrymore in downtown Tampa, renting a car only for a few hours or for the entire duration of your stay just got a lot easier.

“The Barrymore is extremely excited to be one of this innovative company’s first downtown locations, bringing more transportation options to the city center and beyond with ease,” stated Larry E. Collier, Jr., General Manager of The Barrymore Hotel Tampa Riverwalk. “We know our guests want the most convenient and hassle-free way to enjoy their visit and we believe Zipcar’s product offers just that.

As an environmentally-conscious business, we appreciate that car-sharing programs can reduce the amount of personally owned vehicles on the road, the demand for gasoline and pollution in the air we breathe.”

zipcar logoZipcar can be described as a “micro rental,” service, but with maximal flexibility. If you need a car for only an hour, rent it for an hour and return it to the same pickup location. If you need it for 5 days, rent it for 5 days.  Each rental includes the cost of gas, insurance, and up to 180 miles per day.

According to Zipcar’s website, 10% of the population is expected to participate in car-sharing in the future instead of owning their own vehicles. Car-sharing can not only reduce humankind’s carbon footprint, but it also opens up the potential for more green space instead of parking space – less concrete jungle and more actual jungle.

The other downtown hubs will be located at the Tampa Convention Center and Skyhouse Channelside (with two Zipcars each). On Wednesday April 27th from 9:15-9:45am at the Tampa Convention Center’s parking lot (on the south side of the center), there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the launch of Zipcar’s new downtown locations. All are welcome to attend.

In light of the month of October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Creative Marketing Manager for H.I. Development, Kimberly Moore, and the Howard Johnson Plaza‘s Assistant General Manager, Tracy Foley, rose early on Saturday October 19th and hit the pavement for a good cause. From balloons and banners, to t-shirts, tennis shoes and face paint, the Tampa Bay Times Forum and the streets of downtown Tampa were filled with people donning the color that symbolizes the cause.

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk is the largest network of breast cancer awareness events. They are held nationwide in various cities in most states. Participants can join a team or walk as an individual and make a donation of their choice towards the cure. The American Cancer Society, which holds the Making Strides events, is “investing in cutting-edge breast cancer research to better understand, prevent, find, and treat the disease.” Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. Early detection and prevention are key elements to reduce the risk of having to battle the disease.

Kimberly and Tracy led the pack while donning all pink and big smiles as they made the trek down Channelside Drive to Bayshore Boulevard in the out-and-back walk. “I’ve never seen so much pink in one place at one time.” said Kimberly.  “It was breathtaking and emotional when they released the survivor balloons; we were able  to see such a huge number of people who fought the fight and won.”
